With the feel of old-town neighborhoods, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, and Des Peres are residential areas full of niche shops and eateries downtown. Very desirable, people of all ages flock here, although it is especially popular with young families. The cities are easily walkable and made of mostly older properties. Webster Groves was established in 1896 when five communities merged, Kirkwood was the first planned residential suburb west of the Mississippi and formed in 1853, and Des Peres was established in 1934 with a name meaning “of the fathers.”

Des Peres covers 4.40 square miles with a population of 8,373 as of 2010, while Kirkwood’s 2010 census counted 27,540 people in its nine square miles. Webster Groves is known for honoring the arts and its rich culture. Boasting over 300 acres of parks, Kirkwood has many outdoor adventures, including sports fields, playgrounds, an ice rink, an amphitheater, and more. Together, these communities have many things to do, beautiful surroundings, and rich history.

Things to Do

A two-day Fourth of July celebration, Webster Groves Community Days continually attracts thousands of guests. On July 3rd is the Pet Parade, a children’s event where all pets are welcome. On the fourth, the community parade marches two miles through the city, and the festival concludes with a spectacular fireworks show. Kirkwood Greentree Festival follows a parade from the high school through town to the community center. Then a party with music and fun takes place in the park.

Peachtree Festival celebrates Kirkwood’s community, the season, and peaches. Guests enjoy live music and a peach tasting, in addition to buying peach-centric treats. Route 66 Festival Kirkwood honors the area’s music and transportation history with guitars and cars. Live music plays from two stages, vintage cars are on display, and food, drink, and vendor booths are available.

Showcasing classic cars, planes, and locomotives, Kirkwood’s National Museum of Transportation boasts 190 exhibits both inside and outside. The largest vehicle collection in the world, it protects and educates America’s heritage. Westborough Country Club opened in 1948 to help foster community and uphold tradition.
