An hour from downtown St. Louis, seven miles to the west of Wildwood, and about five miles to the northeast of Labadie, St. Albans is a planned yet unincorporated area in Franklin County founded in 1837. It is nestled within beautiful, natural surroundings, overlooking the Missouri River and river valley from the high bluffs. A town rich in history, it is strategically located near big-city conveniences among stunning views of nature.
Although it is within easy reach of amenities, shopping, and restaurants, the city boasts an exclusive, private, far-away atmosphere, providing an attractive oasis to call home. Bordered by nature and the St. Albans Country Club, residents of the area enjoy quiet streets, exquisite neighborhoods, stunning architecture, and a historical atmosphere. The Country Club of St. Albans boasts a stunning landscape cared for with a meticulous hand, two championship, 18-hole golf courses, tennis facilities, practice facilities, a clubhouse, and more. Considered one of St. Louis’ finest country clubs, it is found along the historic Lewis and Clark path.
The place to be for private events, meetings, weddings, and overnight stays, the Inns at St. Albans is built on a historical location surrounded by rolling hills and pastures. An intimate outdoor and indoor setting, it opened in 1892 and has been a local staple ever since. Found within the inns, Head’s Store was inspired by the area’s Rock Island locomotives, honoring the 4,000-mile rail system with its menu. It provides carryout, indoor, and outdoor meals, plus snacks and drinks.
The Hawthorne Inn opened in 1994 and serves traditional American cuisine, global wines, and cocktails. Voted the favorite restaurant in the area, it has an extensive menu and will cater. Opened as a restaurant in 1928, Old Barn Inn Restaurant showcases its unique history and provides farm-to-table dining in a laid-back atmosphere. Rotating through seasonal menus, it enjoys an inviting courtyard, bar, and fireplace. Silver Oaks Chateau hosts elegant, memorable weddings. Opened in 2015, it gives its customers an unforgettable experience.
Things to Do
St. Albans is home to several golf tournaments, both one-time and annual events. The St. Louis Arc Golf Tournament takes place at the Country Club of St. Albans for local golfers and the business community. Participants can maximize their involvement and enjoy contests, drinks, and food. The Metropolitan Open Championship is open to amateur and professional golfers. It is a 54-hole stroke play.
The Kid’s Triathlon allows children and teenagers divided into four age groups to race in three mediums: cycling, running, and swimming. Despite being a competition, the main focus is having fun and enjoying athletics. It encourages good health, community, and self-confidence.
The Inn at St. Albans puts on many events. It hosts a cooking school, providing several classes. Each class is headed by one or more award-winning cooks, best-selling authors, or food professionals, leading an immersive and educational experience. The inn is also a popular venue for private occasions, such as office parties or corporate retreats. The Lodge fits 25 people, and audiovisual equipment is offered.
